Sometimes referred to as the “Needle’s Eye” galaxy due to the large void on its right side, which makes it appear like one when viewed in a telescope. The void seems to be related to an interaction with the galaxy NGC253.
NGC247 is about 70,000 ly across, and lies only about 11 million ly away.
