This is the brightest nebula in Chamaeleon, and is powered by the young T Tauri star HD97300, a massive pre-main sequence star.
It lies 630 lys away.
The long Chamaeleon molecular cloud encompassing it is of considerable interest in the study of exo planets and brown dwarfs.
