This barred spiral was the site of a supernova discovery in 2016 by an Argentine amateur. It is located 67 million ly away in Sculptor, and is about 100,000 ly across like our Milky Way. The galaxy is inclined about 37 degrees to our line of site, which shows the right arm higher than the left.
The bar makes the gas stream inward along it, and, as seen here, can enhance star forming activity along the spiral arms connected to the bar. The somewhat equally spaced, beading effect reflects the gravitational instability along the arms.
