This nebula in Vela resembles the Flame Nebula. It has an embedded infrared star cluster, and is one of the closest massive star forming regions to us at 2300 ly. It is part of a larger complex called the Vela Molecular Ridge (VMR), a grouping of molecular clouds that houses ongoing star formation.
