RCW38 in Vela looks like a cluster fireworks streaking upward in the night sky. It contrasts nicely with the brilliant blue star below it.
The nebula lies about 6,000 ly away, and there is a young star cluster embedded in it – although most of its massive members can’t be seen yet.
