NGC2244 – Chile

The open cluster NGC2244 lies in the heart of the Rosette Nebula. The cluster is quite young – less than 5 million years old. Its radiation has excavated the gas in the nebula behind it leaving the dark cavity. Note the bright yellow star is a foreground Type K star.
