The “Wild Duck” cluster numbers about 2900 member stars, and lies about 6,000 ly away in Scutum. Long exposure photography with a telescope reveals far more stars in its make-up, and it is more difficult to discern the wonderful “ducks in flight” wedge-like appearance that is seen in binoculars, or visually with a small telescope.
